A Few Things Worth Knowing About Downtown St. Catharines on a Friday Night

If you haven't spent much time in downtown St. Catharines lately, it's worth another look. It's not a flashy neighbourhood, but it has a lot going on if you know where to look — and it's been quietly adding good options over the last few years.

A Friday night downtown usually starts somewhere comfortable. A drink somewhere that isn't too loud, somewhere you can actually catch up with whoever you're with before the night gets going. That's where Wandering Spirits tends to fit in. We're a cocktail bar, the room is relaxed, and there's no pressure to rush through anything.

For dinner, the blocks around James Street have a solid range. Casual spots, sit-down restaurants, a few places that have become genuine local favourites. Most groups can find something that works without too much back and forth.

Later on there's more energy to be found if you want it, or quieter options if you don't. The neighbourhood has a bit of range, which makes it work for different kinds of nights.

It's a good city for a Friday. It just takes a little bit of knowing.
